"Astrology is one discipline which serves to link the intuitive mind to the rational mind”

 Alan Okens

Astrology, one of humanity’s oldest symbolic languages, offers a poetic way to understand our connection to the cosmos. By studying the movements of planets, stars, and celestial bodies, it reflects the rhythms of human life—our emotions, growth cycles, and evolving sense of purpose.

At its heart, astrology is not about fate, but about meaning: how the universe speaks through us and how we respond.

Feng Shui and astrology come from the same ancient Chinese cosmology, both rooted in Taoist philosophy and the study of Qi (life force energy). While Feng Shui focuses on the energy of space, astrology focuses on the energy of time — together, they form a complete picture of harmony between Heaven and Earth.

A Forbidden Science: Astrology, Spirituality & Power

Throughout history, astrology and the occult have existed in a complicated relationship with power. In Nazi Germany, esoteric symbolism and mythic narratives were used to manipulate, not enlighten—demonstrating how spirituality can be weaponized to serve authoritarian aims.

Under capitalism, a similar dynamic can occur. Practices like astrology and mindfulness are often stripped of their communal or revolutionary roots and repackaged as self-optimization tools—encouraging personal healing without questioning systemic harm.

Yet, astrology can also be profoundly liberating. When practiced consciously, it becomes a language of reclamation—a way to reconnect with cycles of nature, honor emotional truth, and cultivate awareness of collective patterns.

The key is discernment. Ask yourself: Does my practice reconnect me with others and the world—or isolate me in self-improvement? Astrology itself is completely neutral; its power depends on your intention.

Astrology tells you when energy supports you, and Feng Shui tells where it supports you.

East vs West

While Feng Shui focuses on the energy of space, astrology focuses on the energy of time — together, they form a complete picture of harmony between Heaven (time), Earth (space), and Human (choice).

Chinese astrology interprets your birth date and time to reveal your personal energy blueprint. The four pillars represent:

  1. Year Pillar – Your social identity, ancestors, outer world influences.

  2. Month Pillar – Family, career potential, and early environment.

  3. Day Pillar – Your true self and intimate relationships.

  4. Hour Pillar – Inner dreams, children, creativity, and long-term vision.

Each pillar has a Heavenly Stem (elemental Qi) and an Earthly Branch (animal sign + hidden elements)

The interplay between these layers shows your elemental balance and your life path timing through 10-year “luck cycles.”

When all three types of luck align, you live in harmony with the Dao — where inner and outer worlds reflect each other in flow, aligning and balance fate with freedom.

The Cosmic Trinity of Fate

In Chinese metaphysics, life is shaped by a balance of three different energies that determine destiny, environment, and choice.

1. Heaven Luck (Tian Cai / 天才) – The energy of Time/ Destiny. When and where you're born and how that reflects your natural gifts, tendencies, and life timing (ie Astrology)

2. Earth Luck (Di Cai / 地才) – The energy of Place/ Environment. The influence of your surroundings, addressed through your home, landscape, and design (ie feng shui)

3. Human Luck (Ren Cai / 人才) – The energy of Action/ Free Will. Your mindset, actions, and relationships — the part you can control. Through awareness and effort, you can transform challenges into growth, using the wisdom of both Earth and Heaven to your advantage.

When these three are in harmony — your Heaven design, Earth setting, and Human choices — you live in flow with the Dao, aligned with both fate and freedom.

Two key chart points—the Ascendant (Rising Sign) and Midheaven (MC)—shape how these energies manifest. The Ascendant reveals your approach to life; the Midheaven, your public role and purpose.

Every sign has an innate challenge and an innate power. Further, no planetary placement is inherently “good” or “bad” - it’s about how you use it to your advantage.

The Astrology of Aging: Planetary Cycles & Life Stages

Astrology beautifully mirrors the cycles of human development. Each major planetary return marks a rite of passage—a moment of integration, reflection, and renewal.

  • Lunar Return (monthly): Emotional reset and renewal.

  • Solar Return (yearly): Your personal “New Year.”

  • Mars Return (every 2 years): Rekindled motivation and drive.

  • Jupiter Return (~every 12 years): Expansion, growth, and new horizons.

  • Saturn Cycles (~every 7 years): Lessons in structure, integrity, and maturity.

  • Uranus Opposition (~age 42): Liberation and authenticity—often called the “midlife awakening.”

  • Chiron Return (~age 50): Healing the wound, teaching from experience.

Each of these transits reminds us that aging is not decline—it’s deepening. The cosmos invites us to keep growing, shedding, and beginning again.

“Astrology is a language. If you understand this language, the sky speaks to you.”

Dane Rudhyar

Bringing It All Together

Astrology is both mirror and map. It doesn’t predict your fate but helps you recognize patterns, name energies, and make conscious choices.

Like any spiritual practice, it can become either a bridge to liberation or a distraction from it. When practiced with integrity, astrology grounds us in interconnection—it helps us locate ourselves within larger cycles, reminding us that our lives, like the planets, are always in motion.

The stars don’t dictate our path—they illuminate it.
