Holistic Energy Protection: Ensuring Your Safety & Security using both Ancient & Modern Techniques

In an increasingly unpredictable world, personal safety is becoming a major concern for many, especially women, children, the elderly and other vulnerable populations.

As a feng shui practitioner, energy healer and mother, I understand that safety is holistic and extends beyond your physical environment and basic safety measures. It's also about cultivating an energy field that fosters security, peace, and empowerment, and making conscious and deliberate choices day to day.

No one should have to live in fear. Awareness and preparedness can significantly reduce your safety risks. In this post I'll share dozens of time-tested, practical AND metaphysical strategies for protecting yourself at home, in your neighborhood, and while out and out in public.

Home Safety & Security

Your home should be a sanctuary—a place where you feel safe and at ease. Taking both physical security measures and energetic adjustments into account will create a space that supports your well-being and personal safety and neutralizes "Sha Qi" (negative energy):

Main Entrance Protection

Ensure your main entrance, also known as the “Mouth of Qi,” is optimized for positive energy. The following symbols, situations or objects provide both safety, stability and energetic and literal protection from intruders or unwanted visitors:

  • Ensure a well-lit, unobstructed walkway with solar-powered motion-sensor lights

  • Ensure a strong, solid door made of wood or metal

  • Display protective symbols or objects (see historical/cultural examples above)

  • Install a peephole, video doorbell or security camera to verify who’s outside before opening the door, and to monitor your home from wherever you area

Other Habits, Tips & Tricks for Home Safety & Security

  • Secure all entry points – Install deadbolts, reinforce door frames and sliding doors, and use window locks.

  • Never hide keys outside – Instead, give a spare to a trusted neighbor or use a smart lock.

  • Make it look like someone is always home– Use timers for lights and TVs when away.

  • Keep landscaping trimmed – Overgrown bushes provide hiding spots for intruders.

  • Change locks when moving into a new home – You never know who has a copy of the old keys.

  • Position your bed, desk, and main seating areas in the Command Position so that you can see the door without being directly in line with it. This placement fosters a sense of control, security, and readiness. allows better awareness of your surroundings, reducing vulnerability

  • Keep curtains closed at night to prevent outsiders from seeing in.

  • Be cautious of strange or unusual noises outside the home, as criminals have reportedly used this tactic to lure people outside their home. Instead of immediately opening the door to suspicious activity—look around through windows, your peep home, or call a neighbor or the police.

Take a moment today to assess your surroundings: Do you feel grounded? Does your space support your overall peace of mind?

Parking Lot & Vehicle Safety

Parking lots and garages are prime locations for crime due to their isolated nature. Proceed with caution!

Before Getting Into Your Car

  • Scan the area for suspicious activity or unmarked vehicles, especially vans parked next to your driver's side.

  • Have your keys ready to avoid fumbling, which can make you vulnerable, and your key pointed outward or ready to cue the alarm button.

  • Check under and around your car, as well as the backseat and passenger side before seating yourself in the vehicle.

Inside Your Vehicle

  • Lock doors immediately upon entering.

  • Don’t linger in your car, as sitting in a parked vehicle makes you an easy target.

  • If an attacker forces you to drive, back up suddently or crash the car into an obstacle (like a pole). Your airbag will protect you, but your attacker will be disoriented, giving you time to escape.

  • If you're ever thrown into a car trunk, kick out the tail lights to alert other drivers or look for an emergency latch if it's a newer vehicle.

Street Safety & Awareness

It's always best to keep your guard up and err on the side of caution when out in public. It's ok to be overly cautious or even cold and mistrustful if it means maintaining your safety

  • Stay off your phone while walking—distraction makes you an easy target.

  • Walk with confidence; attackers often target those who appear timid.

  • Trust your instincts—if something feels off, remove yourself from the area.

  • Minimize interaction with strangers in need, especially if they're seeking sympathy, food or money from you.

  • Stay in well-lit, populated areas and routes

  • Take the elevator instead of stairs, as stairwells are dangerous at night.

  • Check in with loved ones regularly, especially when traveling alone.

  • Stay off your phone while walking and not using headphones Distracted people are easier targets.

  • Walk with confidence, alertness & awareness – Attackers target those who look insecure or unsure.

  • Trust Your Instincts – If a situation feels off, remove yourself immediately.

  •  Carry a Personal Safety Tool– Pepper spray, a personal alarm, or a heavy-duty tactical flashlight can deter attackers.

  • If Attacked, Fight Back Hard – Use your elbow—the elbow is one of the strongest points on your body. Target the eyes, throat, groin, or knees to escape. Use a loud high pitched voice to startle an attacker and attract attention.

  • Run in a zig-zag pattern if someone with a gun is trying to shoot at you.

  • Have an Emergency Contact System – Always let someone know your whereabouts if traveling alone, or have your phone-tracker enabled so they can see where you are in real-time

  • Take a self-defense class to equip yourself with lifesaving skills.

Safety and security is the foundation of all human motivation. Without it, no other needs can be pursued in a meaningful way.

Digital & Social Media Safety
